2025 Markaz Alumni Awardee Mohammad Subeh
Dr. Mohammad Subeh (B.A. ‘06, M.A. ‘06; M.S. ‘08), a Palestinian-American emergency physician, has dedicated his life to serving others — locally in hospitals, nationally through public advocacy, and globally through annual medical missions. In 2025 he received the national First Humanitarian Award from HCA Healthcare.
Born in Kuwait, Dr. Subeh later came to the United States as a refugee and settled in Los Angeles, California. While at Stanford, he earned a B.A. in Human Biology and M.A. in Sociology (’06), and an M.S. Epidemiology (’08). He went on to receive his M.D. from Oregon Health & Science University and completed his residency in emergency medicine at the University of Chicago and fellowship at the University of California, Irvine..
During his time at Stanford, Dr. Subeh was an active leader who sought to create spaces for Stanford students to learn about Islam and Muslim communities. He served in several student organizations, including the Muslim Student Awareness Network (MSAN) and the Islamic Society at Stanford University (ISSU). Dr. Subeh also helped organize the 2006 Islam Awareness Month and was among the students who advocated for the creation of the Markaz.
Dr. Subeh continues to apply his talents in service to others, leading annual medical missions abroad. He often travels with his eldest son Ahmad to El Salvador to serve communities in need through the Castañeda Kids Foundation. Most recently, he has led trips to provide emergency care in Gaza, and has been featured in major news outlets for his first-hand accounts of medical triage and the ongoing need for humanitarian aid there. Dr. Subeh is also the founder of Kenz Coffee Roasters, which donates a portion of its proceeds to local and global NGOs.
For his extraordinary contributions as a student leader and his lifelong commitment to aiding the most vulnerable in our global community, we recognize Dr. Mohammad Subeh as the 2025 Stanford Markaz Alumni Award honoree.
