Arguably the most beautiful film ever made in a slaughterhouse, this Algerian-French documentary follows the lives of the male employees of a central Algiers abbatoir; full of hope, biterness, and love these men labor under the throbbing rythms of their daily tasks, swaying to the melodies of the Chaabi and Rai music. Filmed in Arabic with English subtitles. Film screening followed by Q & A with the filmmaker Hassen Ferhani, moderated by Marie-Pierre Ulloa (Department of French & Italian) Presented by The Markaz: Resource Center with support form The Algerian American Association of Northern California (, the Abbasi Program in Islamic Studies at Stanford, the Mediterranean Studies Forum at Stanford University, the Department of French and Italian, the Department of Art & Art History and the Bechtel International Center.
