Markaz Trainee Program
Looking for a way to work with the Markaz Resource Center? This winter, Markaz is hiring trainees to support our on-going programs! Each trainee position is different, but all provide pathways to valuable experiences that will benefit you and your community. This is a great way to contribute to connect with the Markaz staff cohort and develop your skills. This opportunity is now available to all undergraduate students.
Available Trainee Positions
Muslim Mental Health Initiative: Program Assessment and Planning
Help plan MMHI’s next evolution! In order to deeply familiarize themself with the care program, the trainee will shadow the MMHI Coordinator at all meetings. With support from the MMHI team, the trainee will lead a needs assessment, looking closely at support groups, to ideate the program's next steps with the MMHI team. Program management experience or interest/coursework in psychology or mental-health is encouraged, but not required.
Telling Our Stories: "Markazine" Designer
Design the look and layout of the Markazine! Trainee will assist the Telling Our Stories Manager in completing a new magazine to celebrate the center’s ten-year anniversary. The trainee will research design software and the printing process, collect creative inspiration for designs and color schemes, and oversee layouts of all sections, including essays, image galleries, interviews, and community art/writing submissions. Prior design experience is encouraged, but not required.
Outreach and Afternoon Chai: Community Catalyst
Bring annual traditions alive! The Community Catalyst trainee will support two major community events, Family Day and Admit Weekend, overseen by our Outreach and Space Coordinators. Trainee will design multi-faceted engagement opportunities for the broader Markaz/Muslim community, including families and prospective students. Experience with event planning and coordination would be helpful, but we are really looking for someone with a passion for people and connection. Come prepared to share ideas!
Minara: Marketing and Event Support
Make mentorship look good! Our mentorship program Minara needs a trainee to help with a variety of communication tasks in winter and spring quarter. Trainees will support event marketing and outreach, but will also help oversee our end of year mixer for mentors and mentees. This position will really help you get a sense of what it’s like to be a program coordinator at the Markaz. If you’re interested in staffing, this position is for you!
Program Details
- Winter and spring quarter commitment
- Work approximately 25-30 hours a quarter
- Attend weekly staff meetings, Tuesday, 3-4PM
- Trainees will be given $500 stipends quarterly
